Prayer that moves
Matthew 6:9-13
In this maneer, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
In Jesus first sermon to the multitudes, He gave us a pattern on how to pray to God. And He started by praying, "Our Father in heaven". Friends, when we come before God and pray, there is a position that we must come into - the position of a son. Many times, when we come before God to pray, we thought of coming before a God who is far away, so holy that we cannot come near. Perhaps in our mind we come as a servant before a master, wanting to request something. But Jesus didn't say pray in this manner, "Our Master in heaven." He says, when we pray, come as sons of God and pray, "Our Father in heaven." That doesn't means we ignore His holiness, but it is still possible to come before God as sons and give Him the proper reverence.
Our relationship with God in prayer must come to the level of a son and a father. Jesus went on to says in Mat 7:7-11, where He taught about the different aspect of prayer. And He sums it up in verse 11, by saying, "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!"
When we are seeking it means we lost something and we are looking everywhere to find it. ANd the moment you found what you have been seeking, you will stop. The reward is that we found the things that we have been looking for. And the bible says in Hebrews 11:6 that He is a rewarder to those who diligently seek him. In fact He says it plainly in Deut 4:29 that when we seek Him in prayer, He promised that He can be found.
Friends, today if you feel that you are lost in your prayer, that when you pray, it is without directions, you can come before God, as a son who comes before the Father, seeking after Him. Visualize the cross as you pray, because the cross connect us to God. And when you pray, allow the Holy Spirit to move in you, and cries out, "Abba, Father". He is not far away, and you can come near to Him, as close as a son is to a father.
